3D Artist

Remote and Oxford, UK - Contract/Freelance (appox. 80 hours per month)

Antler Studios is looking for a 3D Modeller, responsible for creating various 3D props for the game environment. Duties include modelling, sculpting and texturing, assets must be created in a game-ready state. Desirable candidates will have experience and skills in optimisation and potentially 3D rigging/animation.

You will be responsible for maintaining the stylistic direction of Project Grove, as well as adhering to our asset creation schedule, achieving our goals and milestones. You will work closely with our Art Director and Lead Designer on the team.

Essential

  • Degree in 3D modelling or similar

  • Previous portfolio showcasing 3D skills

  • Strong understanding of working with modelling software (e.g. ZBrush and Maya)

  • Proven experience as a 3D modeller within the gaming industry

  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Previous experience creating Low-Poly 3D models (preferably Maya), both organic and man-made structures

  • Strong understanding and previous experience of sculpting (preferably ZBrush)

  • Strong understanding and previous experience unwrapping

  • Strong understanding an previous experience texturing models (texturing stylised hand-painted models) with the ability to match models to current stylistic game choice

  • Ability to create game-ready props, with LODs and Optimisation

  • Ability to create game-ready foliage (strong understanding of poly-based and card-based foliage approach), experience creating foliage cards and textures

  • Creative flair and confidence to try new things

  • Be an effective team player through effective communication and listening, reliability, respectfulness and conflict resolution

  • Extremely well organised, with fast workflow. An ability to multitask and meet short deadlines is essential

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine 4

  • Understanding and experience creating complex material setups (water, VFX, Foliage etc.)

  • Skill and experience in rigging and animating 3D models: rigging and skinning in Maya, animating in Maya

  • Previous experience working for an Indie studio

  • Strong understanding in optimisation (LOD creation, etc.)

  • Clean driver's licence 

  • Live/commutable distance from Oxford, UK

Job Specifics

  • Flexible working days

  • Approx. 80 hours asset work available per month (scope to increase if desired)

  • Contract/freelance basis, with an intention to expand to a full PAYE employment over the next few months

Antler Studios

Antler Studios is a small Indie developer, currently developing the Project Grove series. We're a close-knit team, who have designed and built Project Grove from the ground up. As Project Grove's development grows, we're looking for additional 3D artists to help build and shape Project Grove's environment. 

We will consider 'work-from-home' candidates for this role, although candidates will be required to attend monthly meetings at Antler Studios HQ in Oxford. We will only consider applicants who provide a portfolio.
